Xixiakou Shendiaoshan Wildlife World sits in Xixiakou Village, Chengshan Town, Rongcheng, on the Weihai coast. The park is laid out as a sequence of themed zones rather than one long circuit, which suits families: children meet a group of animals, lose interest, then move on. Early spring works well for this kind of outing, before the holiday season brings heavier traffic through the enclosures.
Predators first
The first zone past the entrance belongs to tigers and lions. The enclosures give them room to move, and the mood of a visit changes when one of them is up and walking. Mornings are the better bet for active big cats. Supervised meat feeding runs at designated times when the park is operating it; stay behind the barriers and let staff handle the food.
Macaques, squirrels and small hands
Next comes the macaque area. Apples get them moving, and a group can turn a quiet minute into a small drama of reaching, checking and retreating. The squirrel garden is smaller and better suited to children, who can watch squirrels crack sunflower seeds with quick paws. Both stops reward patience: stand still, keep voices low, let the animals close the distance. Where feeding is allowed, follow staff instructions and use only the food sold on site.
Kangaroos and capybaras
Grass is the introduction at the kangaroo area. Most of the kangaroos are gentle, and some will hop over to take food from a held hand. Children can watch at eye level, but an adult should stay close; a calm animal is not a toy. The capybara enclosure is the opposite kind of stop — social animals, notably unbothered, and a few minutes of watching them tends to reset the pace of the day.
Alpacas, bears, giraffes
Alpacas have a reputation for being curious and opinionated at once. They like carrots, and they may spit if food is waved and then withheld. Feed slowly, keep the hand steady, don't tease. A short encounter is a good one.
Black bears and brown bears are in the next enclosures. Apples are the favoured offering, and some bears have learned to turn in circles, a habit worth watching without rewarding with extra food.
The Africa zone is the most tactile stop for many children. At the feeding point a giraffe lowers its neck and takes food with a long tongue, slowly enough to follow, and the size of the animal is suddenly very immediate.
The marine zone
Seals, sea lions and fur seals fill the final stretch. Fish is the incentive, and gulls are alert to any food left uncovered; the birds will take their own chances if a fish is held too loosely. Keepers will tell you what can be fed and where to stand.
Before you go
Check the park's official channels for opening times, admission arrangements and the day's feeding schedule. Animal interactions depend on welfare and staffing, and can change at short notice. It is an outdoor site on the coast, so dress for wind and wear shoes you can walk in. Plan around energy rather than coverage: stopping for a drink, or sitting out a crowded stretch, is part of the day rather than a break from it.
