Yantai has enough coastline for quite different days by the sea. A central beach makes sense for an evening stroll; a broad stretch of sand suits a longer outing; an island requires transport planning. Choose by location and the kind of day you want, rather than by old star ratings for water quality. Swimming conditions, permitted areas and facilities should be checked on arrival.
First and Second Bathing Beaches: stay close to town
First Bathing Beach, on Binhai North Road in Zhifu, is the established central choice. Its beach is relatively compact, with city services nearby and a view towards Yantai Hill’s lighthouse. It combines easily with the waterfront after dark and nearby outings to Moon Bay, East Fort or Yantai Hill.
Second Bathing Beach lies along the coastal road in Laishan. Haichang Fisherman’s Wharf is next door, and the pier adds another walking destination. It is a practical option for mixing sand and a built-up waterfront, but convenient access also means that summer need not be quiet. Check the current operation of surrounding attractions before making a day of them.
Huang Hai and the university waterfront
Huang Hai Amusement City is better thought of as a seaside park area than an automatic swimming destination. The Huang Hai Pearl landmark, coastal villas and a ship display give it a different character from a simple beach afternoon. Confirm access to any exhibition you want to enter.
At Yantai University’s east gate, the beach draws students and nearby residents. It has been associated with beach sports and water activities, but the actual rental and activity options depend on the season and operator. Go for a walk first, then decide what is available and appropriate that day.
Smaller parks farther east
Tianyuewan, east of the university beach, and Dongbozi Seaside Square, farther towards Yangma Island, are alternatives when a simple shoreline matters more than a full set of facilities. Do not assume changing rooms or showers. Jellyfish are a reason to keep clear, not something to catch for entertainment.
Longhu Putihaiwan Park is another lead if staying around the Yangma Island area. Play areas, flowers and horse-related activities have formed part of its offering. Ask about current public access and available activities, especially if you are not staying at an associated property.
Yangma Island: distinguish the shores
Yangma Island’s northern side has rocks, surf, a pier and the well-known horse sculptures. The southern shore has a different, more sheltered setting with fishing-house accommodation and places to eat seafood. The bathing beach discussed here is at the island’s eastern end.
Do not turn that geographical distinction into a guarantee of safe water. Follow local notices and use designated swimming areas. A car or an arranged local vehicle can make a circuit easier; check rental terms and the return to town. Allow at least a substantial half-day, or stay overnight if you want a slower visit.
Golden Beach for a longer stretch of sand
Golden Beach, or Jinshatan, lies in Yantai’s development-zone area. Its long sandy shore and coastal promenade make it a different choice from the compact central beaches. Tianma Pier and the Changyu wine-estate area are possible nearby additions, subject to their own opening arrangements. It is worth choosing a section to enjoy rather than trying to cover the entire shoreline.
Moon Bay requires an island trip
Changdao’s Moon Bay, or Yueyawan, is on North Changshan Island. Rounded pebbles, not soft mainland sand, are its distinctive feature. Combine it with Changdao’s coastal scenery and perhaps Jiuzhangya, leaving room for seafood and island transport.
The crossing starts from Penglai, so check ferry availability, weather and the last return. One day gives only a selective visit; an overnight or two leaves more margin. Current bus routes, island connections and admission packages need checking separately. Of these options, choose the beach that fits your base first, then build the rest of the day around it.
