One island trip, several separate legs
Huanglong lies near Sijiao in the Shengsi islands. Fishing villages, granite shoreline and small harbours make it an appealing place to slow down, but reaching it requires more thought than simply buying a ticket marked “Shengsi”. The useful planning outline is mainland to Sijiao, a road transfer across Sijiao, and then a boat to Huanglong.
Think of these as separate connections. The port where you arrive on Sijiao is not necessarily the one used for Huanglong, and the time between boats must cover collecting luggage, finding transport and crossing the island. Build the return journey with the same care.
Reach Sijiao first
From Shanghai, investigate the coach-and-ferry route from Nanpu Bridge through Shenjiawan, or travel independently to Shenjiawan’s passenger terminal. If using public transport for the mainland approach, check the current connection from the Shanghai side rather than relying on an old bus number or timetable.
A combined booking may simplify the journey, but read exactly which coach and boat it includes. Confirm the departure terminal, the destination printed on the ticket and the passenger check-in requirements. Anyone travelling with a vehicle should check vehicle reservations separately; a passenger booking is not automatically a place for a car.
Sanjiang on the Zhoushan side is another mainland approach worth checking if coming from the Ningbo region. Choose the route that fits the whole journey, rather than heading to a port because its name appears in a general island guide. Confirm that the service you need is actually operating on your dates.
Cross Sijiao to the onward pier
The route to investigate is arrival at Lizhushan on Sijiao, followed by a road transfer to Bianjiao’ao in the Wulong area for the Huanglong boat. Treat those names as points to confirm against the current sailing notice and your ticket. Do not assume a change of boats means walking along the same quay.
Ask about the current local bus connection or arrange a taxi or transfer. With luggage, children or a tight connection, a planned pickup may be easier than working out the next bus after landing. Confirm the fare and meeting place before setting off; leave room for the actual road journey and check-in at the next pier.
Know where you will land on Huanglong
Huanglong has several village and harbour areas. Nangang, Zhiao, Da’ao, Xiaohuangsha and Changjiao are useful names when discussing local transport, but they are not interchangeable destinations. Tell the accommodation your confirmed arrival point and ask how to reach it from there.
Once settled, look for coastal granite, fishing-village lanes and views across the water. Yuanbaoshi and the rock inscription “Hanhai Fengqing” are named sights to locate on a local map. Dried “golden hook” shrimp is one of the island’s characteristic food products.
Leave space for the return
Sea conditions can alter or suspend services. Check daily notices, reserve the return where possible and avoid a last-minute connection to a mainland flight or train. If the two ferry legs do not fit comfortably, an overnight stay on Sijiao can turn Huanglong into the following day’s outing. A shorter visit with dependable connections is more useful than a full sightseeing plan built around a boat you cannot catch.
